Lee Bell is sure Crewe Alexandra will soon find their scoring rhythm despite a sixth consecutive League Two draw. His side were held 1-1 at Rotherham, a result that leaves them ninth in the standings with 12 points from eight games, still unbeaten but with just one win so far.

How the draw unfolded

Crewe took a fortunate lead in the 21st minute when Rotherham defender Dominic Iorfa turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Crewe's Chris Long. The advantage was short-lived, as Paul Mullin equalised for the hosts just before half-time, converting a low cross from Kian Spence. Substitute Jack Lankester thought he had won it late on, but his effort was correctly ruled out for offside. The Railwaymen failed to register a single shot on target over the ninety minutes, a statistic Bell admitted must change.

Bell's reaction

The manager acknowledged the need for improvement in the final third but backed his players to turn things around. "Our away form was poor last year and we're looking to improve on that all the time and pick up points," Bell said. "It's the old cliche but I'm pretty sure it will click." He stressed the responsibility lies with the whole team, not only the forwards, to create more and deliver better crosses, pointing to the need for more quality from wide areas.

On-loan Celtic defender Kyle Ure, who made his first league start in the match, echoed the need for wins. "Coming away from home and not getting beaten is a good thing," Ure said. "But six without a win - we've not been beaten in those six - it's not good enough and we need to start winning games." Ure's inclusion was one of two changes from the side that drew with Accrington, with midfielder Charlie Colkett also coming into the squad.

The wider picture

Crewe remain just three points behind leaders Barnet in a tightly packed division where only five points separate the top 16 teams. Their tally of eight goals is the lowest of any side in the top half, a key area for improvement evident in the team stats. The team's recent form shows one win and four draws from their last five outings. Their next test is a tough home fixture against third-placed Bristol Rovers this weekend, a match where they will hope to end their drawing streak and convert their solid platform into three points.
