Crewe midfielder Max Sanders has left the club to join Notts County on a two-year deal. Sanders turned down the offer of a new contract at Crewe Alexandra.

What happened?

The 27-year-old midfielder was among seven players considering fresh terms with the League Two side. He now moves up a division with the Magpies on a free transfer after two seasons at Mornflake Stadium.

Why it matters for Crewe

Sanders made 86 appearances, including 37 in the league last term, and scored three times - all in 2025-26 as the club finished 11th. He missed a month with a hamstring injury in February before returning to play in all but two of the remaining games of the season.

What comes next?

Notts director of football Richard Montague told the club website: "He has plenty of pedigree and experience, while also being in his prime years." Sanders' deal with the Magpies also includes an additional 12-month option. As of the end of the 2025-26 season, Crewe's league standing is 11th in League Two, with 67 points from 46 games, and a recent form of DLLLW. | Category | Stat | | --- | --- | | League Standing | 11th | | Points | 67 | | Recent Form | DLLLW | Crewe announced last month that eight players were leaving at the end of their contracts, with Lewis Billington, James Connolly, Stan Dancey, Luca Moore, Fin Roberts and Conor Thomas all offered new deals.
